I just came back from seven stunning days of paddling on Vancouver Island’s West Coast in Kyuquot Sound.
Not only was it one of the most remote places I’ve paddled in, it was a reunion with my two paddling buddies Amber and Dave, who I haven’t been on a trip like this with since 2017.
This adventure made me feel like me again. Not that I haven’t been having my fair share of adventures, but because it combines being on the water and camping in pristine locations I can’t believe still exist. I not only feel privileged to explore these places and see them in real life, I thank myself for making these experiences a priority.
It would have been so easy to let work and the constant demands of life stop me from going. I’m running two mini businesses (outdoor retreats & dog walking), and have two side hustles (serving & cleaning), but I dropped them all because I know that experiences like these don’t come along very often.
My nervous system was so relaxed I’ve never yawned so much in my life from the fresh air and feelings of relaxation. Sure, when the waves were big, my heart was pumping. But at the end of each day as we settled into camp and cooked delicious food for one another, nothing else in my life seemed to matter.
It took me an entire week to get around to editing a video of this experience. But thanks to a rainy Sunday and a cancelled work shift, I was able to pull it together.
I’m going to be creating a full gear and food list from this trip too, but that might take a little more time to pull together.
For now, you can escape to Kyuquot Sound for the next 2.5 minutes and experience some of the wild beauty I had the fortune to witness.
